Bar Chidi Onyemelukwe
The first daughter of a former Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme, Bar Chidi Onyemelukwe, has assured women in Anambra State of hope and patronage if the People's Democratic Party, PDP, is voted into power in the November 18 Governorship Poll in the state.
Onyemelukwe who is a running mate to the PDP governorship candidate in the race, Mr Oseloka Obaze, spoke during a campaign tour at Anaku in Anyamelu Local Government Area of the state.
She said she would champion and defend women's interests and rights to the letter in the anticipated PDP government.
She said, 'What Anambra needs now are God-fearing leaders who can understand the heartbeats of the people; leaders who are sensitive to the plight of the masses, especially women and children.
'I assure you (women) of greater participation in the polity; I assure you patronage, I assure you hope.'
She urged them to support her team so that, being a fellow woman, she would protect their interests.
Speaking, the PDP guber candidate, Oseloka Obaze, described his running mate as a woman of immense intellect, experience and ability, stating that working together, they would rescue the state and return it to the hall of fame where it rightly belonged.
He reminded the people of the area that another opportunity had offered itself for people to get it right, urging them to work harder to ensure victory for PDP at the poll.
He assured that he would not leave any part of the state unattended to, if elected, "I'm on a mission to restore the glory days of Anambra State.
In his speech, a former governor of the state, Mr Peter Obi, said he had no issues with the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano, as being propagated in some sections of the media.
Obi who said he had since left APGA for the PDP, assured that he would work for the victory of his new party in the November Poll
He expressed confidence that Obaze would return Anambra to the development trajectory he (Obi) left it.
Obi who described Obaze as one who had served meritoriously as an international civil servant and as Secretary to the State Government under his administration, recalled that Obaze was part of the success story of the state.
Obi further described as cheap propaganda, the insinuations in some quarters that he was making monetary demands from anybody or Obiano when, according to him, he left over 10 times the amount they were talking about in the state's coffers.
On second tenure, Obi said it was easy, as the incumbent only had to show the people what he did for them to win their support if they were satisfied with it.
